The Power of “I Want” Over “I Can’t”

Have you ever felt stuck in the mindset of “I can’t” when facing a challenge? I know that feeling well. Recently, I started learning the Turkish Get-Up, a complex movement that felt overwhelming at first. My body felt awkward, my mind struggled to process each step, and I caught myself thinking, “I can’t do this.”

But something shifted—my desire to learn was stronger than my doubt. Over time, “I want” took over, and with patience and guidance, I started making progress.

This is exactly what happens in therapy. When working through anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief, or relationship struggles, your inner voice might say, “I can’t handle this.” But your “I want”—your desire for healing and growth—will be more powerful.

Just like a coach helps refine movement, a therapist supports you in navigating difficult emotions and breaking through mental roadblocks. You don’t have to do it alone.

So, what do you want? Because your “I want” is stronger than your “I can’t.”
